Getting closer to God
An essential element in our church strategy is getting closer to God as individuals. We won't get there by simply attending a weekly communal spiritual event. That is a part of the process, not the solution.
The real source of a deep and growing relationship with God is a deep and growing relationship with God.
How do we get that? Jesus spent time with His Father every day and received a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit each day. If that method was good enough for Jesus then that method is good enough for us.
The method we have chosen is based on the forty day principle. Do some action over 40 days and a strong habit is formed.
The habit we are recommending is to read something spiritual, think and pray about what you have read. Then ring a friend who has read the same spiritual passage. You then pray and in your prayer do two things. The first is to ask the Holy Spirit into your life. That is something to do every day. The second thing to do is to pray for people, especially people you know who you would both like to encourage to become Christians with you.
For that to happen you will need to have already decided who you feel God is asking you to invite. You might needd to review these people on a weekly basis and work out how you can best talk to them about Jesus and a relationship with Him. You will find more about how to do this under the tab 'How to interest your friends in Jesus'
A very short daily blog is provided on this website for you as well as the source of the opriginal reading the blog is based on.
The idea behind this approach comes from the 40 day books written by Pastor Dennis Smith.
